Swift action by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Nagarkurnool has brought relief to two Chenchu community members who were being exploited as bonded labourers in Gumpanapally village under  Achampet mandal.
The victims were allegedly forced to work under a landlord for a paltry debt amount of Rs 15,000.
Acting on oral instructions from the Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), Hyderabad, Chairman-cum-Principal District Judge of Nagarkurnool, D Rajesh Babu, immediately initiated action.
In coordination with the Labour Officer of Nagarkurnool, and the Revenue Divisional Officer of Achampet, relief was ensured under the Central Sector Scheme for Rehabilitation of Bonded Labour, 2016.
The Chairman, along with the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), worked closely with the Judicial Magistrate of First Class, Achampet, and the District Magistrate/District Collector of Nagarkurnool to expedite the process.
Rajesh Babu personally visited Achampet on Friday to oversee the relief measures and ensure justice for the victims.
Within just 12 hours of receiving the information, DLSA Nagarkurnool took proactive steps on a war footing.
Demand Drafts amounting to Rs 30,000 each (a total of Rs 60,000) were issued to the two victims. These monetary benefits were handed over in the presence of officials, ensuring immediate rehabilitation for the exploited individuals.
The coordinated efforts of the district authorities and legal services have drawn appreciation from various quarters.
Speaking about the incident, G Sabitha, secretary of DLSA, Nagarkurnool, reiterated the commitment to safeguarding the rights of the marginalised and ensuring justice for victims of exploitation.
