T20 World Cup 2022: Chasing a score of 159, India in trouble; 4 down for 82 in 12.4 overs

Must read

Helped by a pitch that appeared to favour the bowlers and some shabby batting by India, Pakistan have gained the upper hand in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 match. Chasing a total of 159/8, India lost four early wickets including that of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma and were struggling with a score of 54 at the end of 11 overs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on Sunday.

Pandya-26 and Kohli-22 are in the crease.

Pakistan’s score was propped up by half-centuries by Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on Sunday.

Hardik Pandya took two wickets in the 14th over and another wicket in the 16th to help India restrict the score.

Earlier, India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl against arch-rival Pakistan in their opening match of the Twenty20 World Cup Super 12 at a packed Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Powerhouse India have largely dominated Pakistan since the late 1990s but have lost two of their three previous clashes, including by 10 wickets in the group phase at last year’s T20 World Cup.

And while Sharma’s side are ranked world number one, they haven’t lifted the T20 trophy since 2007, failing to reach the semi-finals last year.

They are without pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, with Mohammed Shami starting in his place.

For 2009 champions Pakistan, batsman Shan Masood has recovered and takes his place after being hit on the head during a practice session last week.

But fellow batsman Fakhar Zaman was omitted, yet to fully recover from a knee injury.
