Superintendent of Police Malika Garg has directed the police officials to take stringent steps to curb ganja smuggling, distilling of country-made liquor and complete the investigation of pending criminal cases expeditiously.

The SP held a review meeting here on Saturday with the police and SEB officials. Speaking on the occasion she directed them to take stringent steps to curb the distilling of country-made liquor, illegal transportation and sale of ganja in the district. The unlawful activities should be prevented, she told them.

The SP also reviewed the progress of investigation of various cases of ganja and illicit liquor cases in police stations and gave some suggestions to the officials.

She ordered the officials to file charge sheets in the courts in all major cases and unravel the major criminal cases at the earliest. The officials concerned should monitor the trials in the courts and ensure that the offenders are punished, she told them.

The SP told the officials to dispose of the vehicles seized in ganja transportation and in other criminal cases. “Lay special focus on the transportation of ganja through the national highway. Lay focuses on the links between the drug peddlers and the drug dealers. Identify the drug dealers and arrest them. Those who were involved in ganja cases previously should be bound over,” she instructed the officials.

SP Malika Garg directed the police officials to organize awareness programmes for college students and youths on ill-effects of ganja and drugs. Raids should be conducted on the illicit liquor brewing units and the ingredients meant for brewing illicit liquor should be seized. The people of the rural areas should be sensitized about the ill effects of consuming country-made liquor, the SP told the officials. She also asked the officials to provide alternative livelihood to the illicit liquor distillers. ASP (Admin) K Nageswara Rao, SEB ES A Avulaiah and other officials were present.
