Minister for BC Welfare, S Savitha, announced that the State Government’s flagship scheme ‘Talliki Vandanam’ will be launched on June 15, with Rs 15,000 to be credited directly into the bank accounts of eligible women. She also stated that fine quality rice (Sanna Biyyam) would be supplied to all BC welfare hostels from the next academic year.

The Minister made the announcement at a felicitation ceremony held here on Thursday, where top-ranking students from the 10th Class and Intermediate levels, belonging to the Backward Classes (BC) communities, were honoured. Minister Savitha presented appreciation letters to some of the high achievers.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision is to ensure that students in government institutions perform on par with those in corporate educational institutions. She lauded both teachers and students for their efforts in achieving excellent academic results.

Savitha informed that repair works were taken up at BC welfare hostels and that the construction of toilets in all BC hostels and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (MJP) Gurukuls across the state would be completed soon.

She noted the impressive performance of students from BC Gurukuls and hostels in the recent 10th Class and Intermediate examinations. “The Government will continue to prioritise students from poor and weaker sections,” she stated, highlighting that out of the 109 Gurukuls in the state, 108 were established during the previous Naidu-led regime.

The Minister also said that BC students are being provided with coaching for the civil services and the upcoming Mega DSC examination. BC Welfare Department Secretary Satyanarayana and Additional Director D. Chandrasekhar also addressed the gathering.

As part of the event, the Minister felicitated 82 BC Welfare students, 15 BC Welfare employees, 103 MJP Residential students, and 31 MJP employees.
