Nestled amidst the lush green hills of Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district in Andhra Pradesh, lies a hidden gem that is slowly gaining recognition among adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers – the Tarabu waterfall. This breathtaking cascade of water, plunging from a height of about 150 feet, resembles a scene straight out of S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus film, Baahubali, where the protagonist (Prabhas) attempts to reach the pinnacle carrying a heavy ‘Siva Linga’.
Located approximately 200 kilometers from the bustling city of Visakhapatnam, the Tarabu waterfall, also known as ‘Pittalaborra’ waterfall, has remained largely unexplored due to its remote location and lack of proper infrastructure. The absence of an approach road, the presence of large boulders along the trail, and the need to trek for about 4 kilometers have deterred many potential visitors.
However, those who dare to venture off the beaten path are rewarded with a spectacle of nature that is truly unforgettable. The cascade descends into a peaceful basin encircled by lush hills, crafting a calm ambiance ideal for a day of unwinding and revitalization. Recognizing the potential of Tarabu waterfall as a tourist destination, officials from the A.P. Tourism Authority (APTA) has initiated plans to develop the area. Led by Regional Director Srinivas Pani, a team of officials recently trekked up the hilly terrain to assess the situation and formulate a comprehensive development plan.
“The waterfall is a sanctuary for trekking enthusiasts and nature admirers,” Srinivas commented. “The breathtaking views and the lush green surroundings offer a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. However, the absence of safety measures such as railings and a proper approach road poses a challenge for tourists.”
In order to address these concerns, the APTA has proposed a phased development plan that will transform Tarabu waterfall into a safe and accessible tourist destination. The first phase will focus on providing basic amenities such as washrooms, drinking water, and trekking trails. Additionally, railings will be installed around the waterfall to prevent accidents.
In the subsequent phases, the APTA plans to construct budget hotels in the nearby village of Pedabayalu and develop an itinerary that links Tarabu waterfall with other tourist attractions in the region. These initiatives are anticipated to enhance tourism in the region and create job prospects for the local community.
The development of Tarabu waterfall will not only enhance the region’s tourism potential but also serve as a reminder of India’s rich natural heritage. With its awe-inspiring beauty and tranquil ambiance, the Tarabu waterfall stands as a concealed treasure, ready to be explored by those in search of a genuine connection with nature.
