Two women, aged 69 and 62 years and suffering from cardiac problems, were successfully treated with a ‘Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation’ (TAVI) advanced procedure, said noted Cardiologist Dr Pothineni Ramesh Babu.

Dr Ramesh Babu said that the main challenge in the 69-year-old patient’s case was that the valve has already been replaced by surgery, and due to the proximity of the valve to the arteries that supply blood to the heart, it is very difficult to implant the valve invasively without harming the arteries.

Another 62-year-old woman, weighing 115 kg, was suffering from Aortic valve problems which are likely to occur in 5 percent of people above the age of 65 years, around 3 lakh people in India can undergo transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) treatment without surgical valve replacement, says Dr. Ramesh Babu.

He said that there are only 30 centers providing such medical treatment in the country and through advanced medical treatments like ‘Tavi’, the standard of living and longevity can be improved. Dr Raja Ramesh, interventional cardiologist, Dr PavuluriSrinivas, Medical Director of Ramesh Hospitals were present.
