Following the announcement by IT and Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will establish a new campus in Visakhapatnam, representatives from the IT giant have commenced the search for suitable vacant buildings in the city. Lokesh had revealed that the foundation stone for the campus would be laid within the next 100 days, sparking significant excitement in the local business community.
“We are thrilled to welcome TCS to Visakhapatnam. This will not only generate new job opportunities but also strengthen the city’s position as an emerging IT hub,” said Rushikonda IT Park Association vice-president O. Naresh Kumar. He added, “The government is committed to supporting TCS in every way possible, including providing land and necessary infrastructure.”
TCS is currently considering vacant buildings at Millennium Tower in Rushikonda IT Hills or renting private properties as a temporary solution until its permanent facilities are built. A TCS spokesperson confirmed, “We are actively considering all options to begin operations swiftly. While the Millennium Tower is promising, we are also looking at other private properties in the city.”
One of the two Millennium Towers at Rushikonda IT Hills, which spans approximately three lakh square feet, remains unoccupied and could serve as a temporary space for TCS. However, certain regulatory challenges must be addressed since the building is in a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). “Besides Millennium Tower, we have inspected three other large buildings in Visakhapatnam. For the initial phase, we need at least 100,000 square feet,” an unnamed TCS official said. The company plans to employ around 15,000 people at the new campus, with recruitment in phases.
A high-level TCS team is expected to visit Visakhapatnam soon to inspect both the Millennium Tower and other private buildings under consideration. “Once the site is finalized, we will work with the state government to discuss next steps, including securing land for our permanent campus,” the TCS representative added. The news of TCS’s entry into Visakhapatnam is being seen as a significant boost for the region’s economy, and local officials have expressed their enthusiastic support for the initiative.
