Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers, led by politburo member Nakka Ananda Babu, submitted a memorandum to the MRO at Kolluru in the Vemuru constituency on Tuesday on the illegal extraction and transportation of sand.

The TDP leaders appealed to the MRO to take stringent action to curb the illegal sand extraction and transportation. Later talking to the media, Naka Ananda Babu alleged that the YSRCP leaders’ illegal sand mining and transportation is prevalent across the state. The YSRCP leaders are resorting to illegal sand extraction with the patronage of government heads and connivance of officials, he lashed out.

“The people of Vemuru constituency hoped that Meruga Nagarjuna would try for the development of the constituency but he is busy amassing huge wealth. The minister is also extending support to illegal sand mining. Sand is being extracted illegally not only from the riverbeds but also from streams and rivulets. The massive mining of sand will lead to natural calamities in the future,” he feared. Since the ruling party leaders are involved in illegal sand mining the officials are unable to take steps to prevent it, he deplored.

“On Monday, the TDP leader went to Juvvalapalem and Chilumuru villages and saw the illegal sand mining. After noticing the TDP leaders, the proclaimers were shifted from there. The indiscriminate sand mining will cause massive damage to the environment which causes depletion of underground water resources. If that happens, the farming community will bear the brunt,” Nakka Ananda Babu feared. He demanded the government to take efficient steps to check the illegal sand mining and transportation.
