Teachers told to improve skills in students

B Srinivasa Rao, Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, has said that teachers should be trained to improve classroom skills and abilities in every student. A three-day ‘Quality Action Plan Preparation’ training was organised on Wednesday as part of the Learning Improvement Programme (LIP) under the auspices of the Department of School Education in partnership with UNICEF, CIPS (Centre for Innovation in Public System), Save the Children.

The PD said that for the development of education in schools, the government is working through schemes such as creating basic facilities through ‘Mana Badi Nadu-Nedu’, Jagananna Vidyakanuka, Jagananna Amma Vodi, Jagananna Gorumudda, distribution of tablets to eighth class students and teachers hence the students should take advantage of these resources. He said that in order to improve the learning skills of the sixth, seventh and eighth grade students of all government-run schools, teachers should identify their learning levels and provide quality training in aspects such as letter level, word level, sentence structure, math, and communication skills and asked teachers to prepare plans accordingly.

He said that in the middle of this academic year, the programme was implemented experimentally in 10 districts (Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitaramaraju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Anantapur, Sri Sathyasai, YSR, Annamayya) and will be implemented across the State from the next academic year.

SIPS Programme Manager Professor N Upender Reddy, SCERT Textbook Coordinator Dr TVS Ramesh, Save the Children representatives Srinagesh, Programme Coordinator Shaila Kalpana, representatives of related organisations, district resource persons, School Education Department, comprehensive correction, SAMO, SCERT staff were present.
