The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Resource Mobilisation, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, reviewed departmental performances and gave directives for enhancing revenue and ensuring that benefits reach the right hands.
The meeting was held at the secretariat on Monday and was attended by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Jupally Krishna Rao.
Bhatti said that the Commercial Taxes Department registered six per cent growth compared to the previous year, and termed it as encouraging. He said the department had set a target of Rs 600 crore through CST and VAT in March, of which around Rs 500 crore was collected.
He emphasised the need for a robust strategy to improve collections and urged officials to address revenue leakages, particularly in the Excise Department.
The ministers observed a recovery in the sale of flats but expressed concern over the sluggish movement in the sale of agricultural lands and open plots. Officials were asked to propose corrective steps.
In a bid to streamline enforcement, the ministers directed that the newly launched Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system be scaled up across departments to enable mass inspections. The Transport Department was specifically asked to ensure wider adoption of the technology.
Turning to the Tribal Welfare Department, the ministers urged that sand sales in tribal areas be managed through tribal societies. They insisted that only genuine tribal beneficiaries be enrolled as members to ensure that the income rightly benefits local communities.
Revenue officials were asked to identify government lands in district centres and initiate steps for their protection. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) was directed to accelerate the approval process for building permits.
