Telangana’s outstanding agri loans stand at Rs 1.12 lakh cr

Telangana’s agriculture sector has outstanding loans of Rs 1.12 lakh crore as on June 30, 2023, which is less than half of Andhra Pradesh’s Rs 2.43 lakh crore.

Replying to a question on whether the Centre is working out a roadmap for waiving the loans of farmers, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Dr Bhagwat Karad, said, “No such proposal is under consideration.”

There are 73,68,528 bank accounts in Telangana which have outstanding loans of Rs 1,12,492.31 crore. There are 1,40,83,176 bank accounts in Andhra Pradesh which have outstanding loans of Rs 2,43,073.03 crore.

As per data tabled in Parliament, Tamil Nadu tops the chart with Rs 3,47,217.73 crore worth of farm loans taken by 2,79,05,395 bank account holders.

Andhra Pradesh is second in outstanding farm loans while Telangana is seventh in loans taken from commercial, rural and cooperative banks for agriculture.

Connected to Andhra Pradesh agriculture, in commercial banks, there are 92,96,376 accounts with outstanding loans of Rs 1,85,976 crore. In AP cooperative banks there are 20,11,629 bank accounts with outstanding loans of Rs 18,283.41 crore.

In rural TS banks, there are 27,75,171 bank accounts with outstanding loans of Rs 38,813.62 crore.

In Telangana commercial banks there are 46,85,317 bank accounts with outstanding loans of Rs 85,759.46 crore.

In TS cooperative banks there are 11,27,660 bank accounts with outstanding loans of Rs 7,949.85 crore. In rural TS banks, there are 15,55,551 bank accounts with outstanding loans of Rs 18,783.01 crore.

It may be mentioned here that the Telangana Finance Department announced a Budget Release Order (BRO) on August 3 for Rs 18,241 crore to waive the loans of farmers.
