Tender leaves of tamarind sell at Rs 700 a kg in Hyd market

A kg of tamarind tenders leaves sells at Rs 700 and competing with the price of mutton. Though tender tamarind leaves are available freely in country side, but the green leaves fetch a handsome price in urban areas.
The price of tender tamarind leaves equals the price of three kg of fish, two kg of chicken and one kg of mutton.
In the wholesale vegetable market at Gudimalkapur, in retail markets and in Rythu Bazar the tender leaves of tamarind sales have picked up for over the past one week.
In Gudimalkapur market, a kg of tender leaves of tamarind were sold between Rs 500 and Rs 600 on Sunday, while the commodity was sold Rs 700 a kg in Rythu Bazar at Mehdipatnam.  In the open market, 100 grams of the tender leaves are being sold at Rs 50. The farmers said that they would have to take a lot of risk to collect the tender leaves climbing up to the last branches. Farmers would be able to collect significant quantity of the tender leaves by putting a lot of efforts, hence the commodity commands higher price in the market, they said.
The tender leaves of tamarind has many medicinal values, according to nutritions. Each 100 grams of the leaves contain 5.8 grams of protein, 10.6 grams of fibre, 100 mg of calcium, 140 mg of phosphorus, 26 mg of magnesium, and 3 mg of vitamin-C. It is helpful in reducing the impact of various infections on body and also be beneficial to diabetics.
