BJP and youth of a few student unions staged protest at cinema

The film The Kerala Story triggered tension in Bhainsa in Nirmal district with the BJP and youths of a few students unions staging a protest over a theatre stopping the screening of the film. The protesters even got into a shouting match with the police and the theatre management.

It all started as the BJP, activists of religious organisations and youth belonging to a few student unions, protested at the police stopping them from going to the theatre which announced the screening of The Kerala Story. The cinema, named Kamala Theatre, at the last minute, announced the cancellation of the screening of the film.

The youth staged a sit-in and refused to stir out of the premises of the theatre until the film was screened. The youth told the police, when the latter intervened to persuade the audience to move out, that they came to watch the film and they would not go until the film was screened. The theatre management even dismantled the advertisement hoarding.

The protestors questioned the theatre management why it stopped screening the film when it was released in all districts. They suspected that the screening of the film was stopped under pressure from the police or the government.

Earlier, the BJP leaders staged a protest in the town, alleging that a Circle Inspector of Police beat up a man when he was going to the theatre to watch the film. They alleged that the police blocked the way to the theatre. Police were deployed in force at the theatre.

Meanwhile, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad called for Jagtial town shutdown on Saturday to protest against the suspension of rural sub-inspector A Anil. The sub-inspector was placed under suspension on the charge of slapping a woman.

According to the police, the sub-inspector was enraged over the woman arguing with his wife while travelling on a TSRTC bus from Karimnagar to Jagtial. The sub-inspector boarded the bus and allegedly slapped the woman. There were protests in the town over the incident.
