The State government has reduced the tenure of Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson and the members. Government vide Act No 9 of 2023 amended the Section 6 of the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Act, 1998. As per the amended provision, the tenure of the chairperson and the members of the Commission shall be two years, which may further be extended for a maximum period of two years. This amendment shall come into force after the notified date.
Before the amendment came into force, the chairperson and the members of AP Women’s Commission were appointed as per the provision of Section 6 of the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Act, 1998 (Act No 9 of 1998). As they were appointed as per the earlier provision of the Act, they shall remain in office till completion of five years.
