Minister for BC Welfare and Handloom and Textiles, S Savitha, announced the establishment of a Textile Park at Yemmiganur. Accompanied by local officials and MP B Nagaraju, the Minister inspected the site allocated for the project on the outskirts of Yemmiganur town on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Savitha highlighted that the Textile Park would generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for up to 10,000 people. Criticising the previous YSR Congress Party regime, she alleged that handloom workers were neglected during its tenure. She noted that while 100 acres were allocated for the Textile Park between 2014 and 2019 by the then Telugu Desam Party government, the project was abandoned, and the land was later allocated for housing for the poor by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, whom she termed a “betrayer” of handloom workers.
The Minister praised former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for initiating efforts to establish the park and announcing the project in the Legislative Assembly. She stated that the government had earmarked Rs 3.75 crore for developing basic infrastructure at the park site.
MLA Jaya Nageswar Reddy lamented that the earlier government’s decisions had deprived thousands of employment opportunities in the textile sector by reallocating the land meant for the project. The matter, he said, was discussed during the Assembly’s budget sessions.
Minister Savitha directed the district Collector to reallocate the same land for the Textile Park to ensure its swift establishment. MP B Nagaraju and other officials were also present during the visit.
