The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes on Monday held its first public hearing at Adilabad to receive representations from interested parties as part of the process to conduct the caste survey across the state.
Commission Chairman G Niranjan said the public hearing has been convened to receive suggestions and other representations from public representatives, caste organisations and other stakeholders.
The panel had on October 18 issued a notification for holding public hearings.
About four to five hundred people participated in the public hearing in Adilabad. Various caste organisations and political leaders submitted their applications.
The Commissioner received 63 application from Adilabad, 6 from Asifabad, 14 from Nirmal and 7 from Macherial.
Total 90 petitions, suggestions and opinions had been submitted to the Commission in the form of affidavit. The Commission received pleas that the post of Zilla Parisahd chairman should be reserved for Scheduled Tribes as majority of population are tribals in the district, reservation should be made for Backward Classess according to A, B, C, D and E groups and reservations should be made for BCs in proportion to their population. On the other hand some castes have requested to provide opportunity as they do not have political representation.
BC Commission Chairman G Niranjan, members Rapolu Jayaprakash, Tirumalagiri Surender, Balalaxmi Rangu, Special Officer G Satish Kumar, Adilabad District Collector Rajarshi Shah, Mancherial Collector Kumar Deepak, Nirmal Collector Abhilasha Abhinav, Asifabad Additional Collector Dasari Venu, District BC Development Officer Rajalingu and other key officials participated.
Adilabad District Collector and District BC Welfare Officer and staff were specially congratulated for successfully conducting the programme.
