The TG Government has decided to speed up Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme Phase-1 and has set a target to complete the project by December 2025.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting convened by the Minister for Irrigation, Civil Supplies and CAD at the secretariat on Saturday. The meeting was attended by the Advisor to the Government and senior irrigation officials.
As per the resolution, work on the Package III canal between Narlapur and Yedula Reservoirs will be taken up immediately, along with attempts to complete the stretch up to the Karivena Reservoir. Officials said that these works would be completed by October 2025, ensuring swift progress on the ground.
In a detailed review of reservoir infrastructure, the government announced that construction at Narlapur (6.40 TMC), Yedula (6.55 TMC), Vattem (16.70 TMC), and Karivena (19.00 TMC) would be wrapped up in time to enable the impounding of nearly 50 TMCs of water by 2025 end. These reservoirs are considered crucial for enhancing irrigation potential in south Telangana.
The review also included updates on energy infrastructure, with the government confirming that Rs 262 crore has already been released to TGTRANSCO for setting up 400 KV substations at Narlapur, Yedula and Vattem pumping stations.
A dry run of the pump sets is expected to be conducted by July 2025, ensuring that all systems are operational well before the monsoon of 2026.
The government has also decided to undertake de-sedimentation works at the Priyadarshini Jurala Project to restore it to its original capacity of 12 TMCs.
