In a significant move to revolutionise school education, the Telangana government is set to introduce AI-driven digital initiatives in primary schools. A high-level delegation from the state’s Education department visited Bengaluru’s EkStep Foundation on January 30 to explore collaborations that will enhance learning outcomes through artificial intelligence.
The delegation, led by Dr Yogita Rana, Secretary of Education, included Krishna Aditya, Commissioner of Intermediate Education; EV Narsimha Reddy, Director of School Education; Uma Harathi, Assistant Collector Under Training (ACUT), Vikarabad; Garima, Assistant Collector Under Training (ACUT), Narayanpet; and other senior officials.
Their visit was aimed at understanding how digital tools and AI-driven strategies can improve foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), enable personalised learning and provide data-driven insights for better decision-making in schools.
EkStep Foundation, co-founded by Infosys’ Nandan Nilekani, has been instrumental in driving digital transformation across education, health and agriculture.
The organisation is already working with Gujarat, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab and Tamil Nadu to implement AI-powered learning models.
Telangana officials explored key areas of collaboration, including AI-powered digital interventions, teacher training in digital pedagogy and leveraging analytics to bridge learning gaps.
This visit follows Telangana’s recent study tour to Kerala in December 2024, where officials examined the successful integration of AI tools into the state’s ICT curriculum. Inspired by these best practices, Telangana is now formulating a detailed action plan in collaboration with EkStep Foundation to implement AI-driven educational reforms tailored to the state’s needs.
