TG tops in own tax revenue: Economic Survey

Must read

Telangana has emerged as the leading state in India in terms of own tax revenue, with 88 percent of its total tax receipts coming from its sources, surpassing Karnataka and Haryana, which recorded 86 percent each. The state’s strong fiscal position, as highlighted in the Economic Survey 2024-25, reflects its robust financial management and revenue generation strategies.
Apart from its strong tax performance, Telangana has also been recognized as a top performer in the services sector. Along with Karnataka and Kerala, the state has a high per capita Gross State Value Added (GSVA) in services, primarily driven by its thriving IT and fintech industries. Hyderabad, in particular, has been noted for its concentration of financial, real estate, and professional services, contributing significantly to the state’s economic growth.
The Economic Survey categorizes Telangana as a state with strong service sector performance, though it ranks moderately in terms of industrial growth. This reflects the state’s reliance on urbanized, service-driven economic activities, particularly in Hyderabad, which continues to be a major hub for technology and financial services.
Telangana has also made significant strides in infrastructure development, with various investments in sustainable urban planning. The state is actively using ISRO’s Bhuvan Platform for electrical infrastructure management, enhancing the efficiency of urban planning through geospatial mapping.
Additionally, Telangana is among the states benefiting from the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP), which tracks over 9,766 infrastructure projects across India. The survey highlights that Telangana has maintained a strong capital outlay despite fiscal constraints, demonstrating its commitment to long-term development.
