Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada has hosted the commencement of the ‘Giri Pradakshina’ ritual, led by the temple’s Executive Officer (EO) KS Rama Rao. The sacred event began at the Sri Kamadhenu Ammavari Temple, located at the entrance of the Ghat road, following special pujas performed on Monday.
On the occasion of Pournami (Full Moon Day), the temple’s Vedic scholars conducted special prayers, accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras and traditional Mangal instruments for the welfare of society.
The ‘Giri Pradakshina’ saw the participation of numerous devotees, temple officials, and staff. The ritual procession started at the entrance of the Ghat Road and passed through significant landmarks including Kummaripalem Centre, Nalugu Sthambala Centre, Sitara, Kabela, Milk Project, Chittinagar, Kothapet, Nehru Bomma Centre, Brahmina Street, and Ghat road, eventually reaching the temple atop Indrakeeladri.
During the ritual, devotees performed pujas to Durga Devi, who was seated on a specially designed ratham (chariot). Many devotees believe that participating in Giri Pradakshina can fulfil their desires, and they offer prayers, fruits, and flowers to the goddess.
Meanwhile, Minister for Labour and Employment Vasamsetti Subhash visited the Kanaka Durga Temple along with his family.
The temple authorities warmly welcomed the Minister’s family, facilitating their darshan.
Minister Subhash and his family members later offered special pujas, after which the Vedic scholars bestowed blessings upon them at the Veda Ashirvachana Mandapam. The Minister was also presented with Sesha Vastram, Laddu Prasadam, and a portrait as a token of reverence.
The Minister’s family also participated in the Anna Prasadam.
