Tollywood choreographer Shaik Jani Basha alias Jani Master was arrested by the Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) in Goa on Thursday, a day after he was charged with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), in a sexual abuse complaint filed by a 21-year-old colleague choreographer.
According to the statement released by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajendranagar Zone of Cyberabad, the accused was arrested in Goa and produced before the local court and obtained a transit warrant. The accused is being brought to Hyderabad and he will be produced before the regular court.
On recording the victim’s statement it was disclosed that, at the time of offence, she was minor. Therefore, Section 5 (l) r/w 6 of POCSO Act 2012 was added.
Earlier, based on the complaint of the victim, Zero FIR was registered in Raidurgam police station and later the case was transferred to Narsingi police station, as the victim resides in Narsingi.
On September 15, Narsingi Police re-registered a case in Cr.No. 1371/2024 U/s 376(2)(n), 506, 323 IPC. The victim alleged that Jani Master sexually assaulted her in 2020 during a work trip to Mumbai and continued sexual harassment and threatened not to disclose to anyone. He allegedly threatened to ruin her career in the film industry if she disclosed the assault to anyone.
After the case was booked under POCSO, Cyberabad police intensified its efforts to nab Jani Master. On Thursday, police teams arrested him in Goa.
