Tomato prices have reached an unprecedented high at Madanapalle market, with the commodity’s cost touching a staggering Rs 196 on Saturday.
The State continues to witness an unrelenting surge in tomato prices, with the highest-quality tomatoes fetching Rs 196 at the Madanapalle vegetable wholesale market, the largest such market in the region. Meanwhile, the lower-quality tomatoes were sold at Rs 140. If the current trend persists, traders predict that the tomato price could surpass Rs 200 within the next two days.
On Saturday, a total of 254 tonnes of tomatoes were brought to the Madanapalle market. While the tomato yield has dropped considerably in other areas due to unfavourable weather conditions, the Madanapalle region has managed to cultivate tomatoes successfully, maintaining its reputation for producing high-quality produce. Nevertheless, the disparity between supply and demand remains substantial, driving the soaring tomato prices, as explained by traders.
