Top Maoist leader killed in encounter

Kakuri Pandanna alias Jagan (60), spokesperson of the CPI (Maoist) Party’s Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) Special Zonal Committee, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the forests of Dumakonda-Gangakonda in Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district of Andhra Pradesh.

ASR District Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar stated that, acting on intelligence regarding the presence of Maoists in the area, security personnel launched combing operations on Wednesday.

During the operation, Maoists opened fire on the police, who retaliated. Jagan, who carried a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh on his head, was killed in the exchange, while another Maoist, Ramesh, who carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh, was also present. Two AK-47 rifles were recovered from the scene.
