Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta has announced stringent measures to combat crimes against women and children, stressing swift investigations and severe punishments. He declared that such offences would be dealt with an “Iron Fist” and that the police would ensure strong legal action. Recent convictions in the state, including cases under the POCSO Act and life sentences in murder trials, underline the commitment to a tough stance on crime.
In Vijayanagaram, Sanyasi Rao (Siddhu), 19, was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10,500 for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl whom he lured on Facebook with false promises of marriage. The court also awarded Rs 2 lakh compensation to the survivor.
In Chittoor, K Dinesh Kumar received a life sentence for drugging and raping a minor after she rejected his advances. He then forced her into marriage at Tirupati’s Venkateswara Temple.
