Training camp to discover para-athletic talent begins

The National Parasports Talent Identification Hunt and six-Day Training Camp for Para-Athletes began in the city. Organised by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), in partnership with the Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF), the camp will run from April 23 to 28 at the JNV Ranga Reddy Campus, HCU Road, Gachibowli. It aims to find new talent for the 2028 Paralympics, 2026 Commonwealth Games and 2026 Asian Games.

Chief guest Shilpa Reddy, Trustee of AMF, fashion designer, entrepreneur and lifestyle influencer, inaugurated the camp. Other guests included T Gopalakrishna, Deputy Commissioner of NVSRO Hyderabad, R Nagabhushanam, Assistant Commissioner of NVSRO, and Aditya Mehta, Founder of AMF.

On this occasion, Shilpa Reddy said the foundation has been committed to helping para-athletes. Over 10,000 para-athletes have been screened and trained, with 3,500 from Navodaya Vidyalayas. AMF athletes have won over 300 international medals. The goal is to prepare athletes for the 2028 Paralympics.

Gopalakrishna added this is AMF’s 9th camp and called the JNV Ranga Reddy Campus a hub for para-training. He noted that in 2024 alone, NVS students supported by AMF won 142 medals.

From 1,000 applicants, 300 were shortlisted. Selected athletes will be trained in 29 parasports and guided by AMF’s Infinity Parasports Academy.
