Tributes paid to Birsa Munda on Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

The vibrant Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebrations brought together the people here to honour the heroic legacy of tribal leader Birsa Munda. The event, held at the Parvathipuram ITDA, highlighted Munda’s contributions to tribal society and the nation.
Dr. DVG Sankara Rao, Chairman of the State ST Commission, emphasised the importance of education in achieving progress and empowerment for tribal communities. He urged the community to follow Munda’s legacy of courage and resilience. Dr Rao also expressed concern over student deaths in educational institutions and called for immediate solutions to protect students’ well-being.
District Collector A Shyam Prasad reaffirmed the district’s dedication to prioritising education and health, particularly in tribal areas. He outlined ongoing efforts to improve hostel infrastructure, healthcare services, and skill development opportunities for unemployed youth. The JANAM programme, with a focus on PVTG villages, has allocated Rs. 15.25 crore to strengthen Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) for economic uplift.
The celebrations included vibrant cultural performances by students from various schools, showcasing the rich tribal heritage and artistry of the region. To support local farmers and fishermen, cheques worth Rs. 15 lakh were distributed to farmers for sprinkler units, part of a Rs. 45 lakh cashew rejuvenation initiative. Additionally, five mopeds equipped with ice boxes and Aadhaar cards were distributed to fishermen to enhance their livelihoods.
The event was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Municipal Chairman, Sub-Collector, and ITDA Project Officer.
