‘TS govt spends Rs 1.20 lakh per year for each student’

Minister for Education Sabita Indra Reddy on Monday said that the Telangana government was spending Rs 1.20 lakh per year for each student. Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav, along with Sabita Indra Reddy visited a government school at Sanat Nagar and enquired about the problems of the students in the school.

The Ministers said that the State government is working hard to solve all the issues in government schools and provide a pleasant environment for students.

Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas Yadav’s said that many issues were brought to his notice by the staff and students during this recent visit to the school. He assured the students and staff that he would visit the schools in 2-3 days, along with the Minister of Education.

As a part of that, Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, Telangana State Education Women and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSEWIDC) Chairman Ravula Sridhar Reddy, Education Department RJD Vijayalakshmi, JD Prasad, Additional Collector Abhishek and District Education Officer Vijaya Kumari visited the schools on Monday.

In a meeting organised with the students and their parents, the students said that the mid-day meal served to them was not tasty, so they were bringing lunch boxes from home. The Minister directed the officials to take steps to provide tasty and qualitative mid-day meals. Moreover, the toilets were not in proper condition due to a lack of water and a shortage of staff, and the cleanliness of the school has not been maintained due to the lack of sweepers.

The Minister also directed the officials to depute the required staff from the school where the staff is surplus. The Minister directed the Assistant Medical Officer for Health Dr Bhargav to supervise the GHMC staff to take up the responsibility of maintaining sanitation in the schools.

Sabitha Indra Reddy announced that the school would be fully developed in the second phase of the Mana Basti Mana Badi programme.

The Minister suggested that the parents know the problems of their children and bring them to the attention of the authorities in the parents’ committee meeting. Srinivas Yadav announced that steps would be taken to install CC cameras in the school with the help of donors.
