In the last nine years, the Telangana government invested Rs 97,321 crore to expand and strengthen power generation and distribution systems.
Power generation capacity increased from 7,778 MW to 18,567 MW. An additional 10,789 MW of generation capacity has been added, by increasing capacity in thermal and solar power generation, says data revealed by the Telangana government.
Notably, neglected power stations like the Kakatiya Thermal Power Station, the 6×40 MW Lower Jurala Hydropower Station, and the 4×30 MW Pulichintala Hydropower Station were completed by the Telangana government’s proactive efforts.
The 800 MW Super Critical Thermal Plant at KTPS was constructed in a record time of 48 months, showcasing the state’s commitment to rapid development.
The Yadadri Power Station with a capacity of 55X500 MW is being built with an investment of Rs 34,400 crore in the public sector at Damaracharla in Nalgonda district. It will start generating power by the end of 2023. The government has also taken steps to strengthen power supply and distribution systems to match the increased power generation capacity. The number of 400 KV, 220 KV and 132 KV transformers has been increased, and the length of high-tension lines has been significantly extended.
The power supply system’s capacity has now reached 39,345 MVA. Large-scale expansions were carried out for 33 KV and 11 KV substations, along with low-tension power distribution lines.
Telangana has earned recognition as the state with the best power supply system in the country after it established the State Load Dispatch Centre using modern technology, ensuring continuous quality power supply to all sectors.
This system has successfully met peak power demand which reached 15,497 MW in March 2023.
An ‘Island System’ has been implemented to overcome power supply gaps during grid failures and to improve power distribution stability. Modern ‘Ring Main Systems’ have also been installed at 400 KV, 220 KV, and 132 KV substations to prevent power supply breakdowns in Hyderabad city.
The continuous supply of quality power has led to a golden age for agriculture in Telangana. During the last nine years, 8.46 lakh additional agricultural electricity connections were given, raising the total number of connections from 19.03 lakh in 2014 to 27.49 lakh.
An additional 67 lakh electricity connections have been provided to all sectors, bringing the total number of electricity connections in the state to 1 crore 78 lakhs.
