TS sculptures to be showcased at New York Metropolitan Museum

The sculptural treasures of the rare Buddhist monasteries of the 2nd century AD found in Phanigiri, Dhulikatta and Nelakondapalli areas of the state will once again impress historians by exhibiting them at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City from July 17 to November 23, 2023. This artistic treasure will also be exhibited at the National Museum of Korea from December 23, 2023 to April 14, 2024.

A strategy has been devised to carry out new excavations to uncover our historical glories. Mootakondur mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district has identified historical wealth in Chada village and sought permission from the Central government to carry out excavations there. Similarly, it has also been decided to undertake excavations at Phanigiri, a prominent Buddhist centre in Suryapet district.

Telangana government has taken special measures for the preservation of historical buildings and historical treasures. As a part of this, the Department of Archeology conducts excavations in the historical areas of the State to identify rare artefacts and historical treasures and preserve them.

Apart from preserving these identified treasures, they are also exhibiting them in the country and abroad to inform the world about the historical glory of Telangana.

Special attention is also being paid to the management of museums in the State. Renovation of old museums and plans for setting up new museums are being made and implemented. Some of them are under construction.

Estimates of Rs 9.80 crore for the reorganisation of the Gandhi Century Museum in Karimnagar district are under government scrutiny. Nalgonda district is preparing for the displaying of historical items and artefacts at the Buddhist Museum in Nagarjunasagar Buddhavanam. Another museum in Warangal has been sanctioned Rs 3 crore.
