Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy called upon the public and farmers to attend the September 16 public meeting being held at the Narlapur Pump House which forms part of the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme as Chief Minister KCR is switching on the motors on that day.
“The Centre’s refusal to determine Telangana’s share of the Krishna River waters in the last nine-and-a-half years has become a major obstacle in the way of the project. Various other obstacles were also created to block the project. Despite all the difficulties, Chief Minister KCR’s strategies got Constitutional approvals. Banks did not give us loans. So we allocated about Rs 25,000 crore from state funds and are now completing the project. The Palamuru Ranga Reddy irrigation scheme is the highest lift irrigation scheme in the world. The project has mega water pumps with a capacity of 145 MW each,” he said.
“The biggest achievement of this century is the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. Self-governance is a boon for Telangana. Even if Harihara Brahmas come in the way, even if crores of Chandrababus conduct hypocritical prayers, the BRS government will execute the Palamuru Ranga Reddy project,” Niranjan added.
“On 11.06.2015 at the Bhootpur public meeting on the occasion of the foundation stone laying of the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme by KCR, he said that Krishna waters will be brought from village to village in Kalashala and will be used to anoint every temple and prayer hall. After that many cases were filed by local thieves due to envy and hatred,” he said.
“Decades ago if Krishna waters had reached Palamuru this region would have become green and would have been a leading agricultural region of the country. The spinelessness of this region’s leaders became a curse for the people of Palamuru,” Niranjan said.
“We completed the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme which irrigates 12.30 lakh acres in erstwhile Palamuru and Ranga Reddy districts. On September 16, the dream of the people of Palamuru is going to be fulfilled with the test run of the Palamuru Rangareddy pumps by KCR. The public and farmers should attend this programme.
Krishna waters should be brought with a Kalasham and offered to Gods in temples in villages with drums and instruments and sprinkled in prayer halls. Celebrations should be held on a large scale in the 1,600 villages of the erstwhile Palamuru district. What Telangana has achieved is mainly irrigation,” he said.
“We have gone forward carrying the Telangana flag with the definite aim to bring Krishna waters here. We faced many failures. Today I think it is a memorable thing to be a partner in the construction of this Palamuru Ranga Reddy lift irrigation scheme. I named my house ‘Krishnamma’ after the river which quenched the thirst of Palamuru’s people,” Niranjan said.
