The Telangana State Council of Higher Education organised a one-day round table conference on ‘Internship/ Apprenticeship on ‘On the Job Training (OJT)’ Job Placement/Student Development’ at the Dr BR Ambedkar Open University here on Thursday.
Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu was the chief guest at the programme.
He said that Telangana is the leader in the IT industry in the country and in education and that this should be promoted. There are three verticals in skilling, the Skill University, internships and career progression (placements). All the three have to work in tandem, he said.
As there is no nodal officer to handle skilling, the Minister wanted a committee to be constituted to go into structural changes leading to transformational changes.
He said that steps should be taken to ensure that students get internships in leading companies while studying at the degree level so that they can improve their employment chances.
He said that educational institutions will get an opportunity to train students in ways required by industries. He said that there are well-known IT companies and MNCs in Hyderabad who are happy to enter into a MoU with the government.
Appreciating the efforts of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education, the Minister ordered that a special cell should be set up for coordination with the government and companies and that the Education Principal Secretary should monitor it.
The Government of Telangana is formulating its own education policy and it is likely to borrow some aspects from NEP 2020.
“There are states in which there are 10 to 12 unicorns but in Telangana there are just two or three. The government is also planning to set up an International School of Skilling,” he said.
The Telangana State Council of Higher Education and BFSI signed a MoU in the presence of the Minister on the occasion.
