Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) has collaborated with Telangana State Judicial Academy (TSJA) and organised one-day refresher training programme on concepts and challenges involved in juvenile justice to the stakeholders of the juvenile justice system at Telangana State Judicial Academy, Secunderabad, on Monday.
The aim of training programme is to sensitise all the stakeholders or functionaries of juvenile justice system in the State such as Principal Magistrates of Juvenile Justice Boards, District Women and Child Welfare Officers, District Child Protection Unit Officers, Superintendents, Observation Homes and Members of Juvenile Justice Boards.
Justice P Sam Koshy, Judge, Telangana High Court and Executive Chairman of Telangana State Legal Services Authority, in the presence of Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili, Judge, Telangana High Court and President of Telangana State Judicial Academy, Justice T Vinod Kumar, Judge, Telangana High Court and Chairman, JIB Committee, inaugurated the programme.
On the occasion, Justice Sam Koshy stated that today’s children are the citizens of tomorrow and State and Central governments and UNICEF are taking steps for effective implementation of juvenile justice laws intended for the care, protection and rehabilitation of the children in conflict with law. He also said that the programme will be fruitful and productive to all the stakeholders.
Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili emphasised on providing playgrounds in schools and residential areas, inculcate adequate moral values to children and create a special Helpline for the children in distress.
Vinod Kumar emphasised that the Juvenile Justice Act is designed to provide a fair, reformative and rehabilitative measures to the juveniles and awareness to be created on various opportunities intended for their care and welfare in the State.
Bharati Holikeri, Special Secretary to the Government and Commissioner, Women Development and Child Welfare department, stated that stakeholders of various agencies are working for the cause of juvenile justice in the state and there is still need to provide adequate infrastructure and periodical training to all the stakeholders for effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice System.
S Goverdhan Reddy, Member Secretary, Telangana State Legal Services Authority, emphasised about the role of legal services institutions for providing legal services to the juveniles and expressed that the programme serves as an ideal platform to develop an effective interface amongst all the functionaries associated with the responsibilities relating to justice and to strengthen juvenile justice mechanism in the State.
