TSNAB chief briefs CM about current drug situation in TS

Telangana State Anti Narcotics Bureau (TSNAB) Director Sandeep Shandilya on December 11 briefed Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy regarding the current situation of drugs in the State and elaborated on the activities taken up in the last six months.
He delivered a presentation to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police. TSNAB should become a premier organisation on lines of Greyhounds and Octopus. The government promised to provide personnel in TSNAB with all incentives on par with these organizations, including advance increments and accelerated promotion for exceptional work showing exemplary courage.
TSNAB’s  primary focus would be on educational institutions, film & IT industry, bars and pubs, rave parties, resorts etc. “If parents, teachers and police can’t save the kids – who can!” Each one has to understand his role thoroughly and prevent the youth from falling into the trap. All principals of schools and colleges (government & private) in the State have to form Anti-Drug Committees (ADCs). This committee should have at least have five members – faculty members, parents, students, non-teaching staff, NGOs, counsellors, de-addiction experts, hostel wardens and dqistrict administration, including police.
The ADCs should hold periodic meetings about the steps taken to identify those indulging in or abetting drugs peddling/consumption. Teachers, students and guardians should be explained clearly about the “Tell Tale” signs of drug abuse. The committee should conduct events like anti-drugs work shop, seminars, orientation programmes, counselling, awareness programmes, education on ill-effects of drugs, sessions encouraging peer policing among students against drugs and reporting of any use of drugs by students to authorities.  The committee shall intimate the local police, if anyone is found or reasonably believed to be indulging in consumption or possession or sale of purchase of narcotic and psychotropic drugs.”
“If anyone has information regarding narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances, it shall be informed to the Helpline number 8712671111 and Email ID: tsnab-hyd@tspolcie.gov.in such information shall be kept confidential and will not be disclosed to any person or authority. Informants will also suitably rewarded. It is hereby notified, that it shall be the overall responsibility of the Colleges and other equivalent educational institutions and its management, to put in place other systems and checks, to eradicate the menace of Narcotic Drugs from in and around their premises.”
