On account of the heavy rainfall warning issued by the meteorological department in both Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) drivers were asked to drive carefully in monsoon.
TSRTC Chairman Bajireddy Govardhan issued safety instructions on Wednesday to be followed by the RTC drivers to avoid road mishaps due to heavy rains in the State. He said that the drivers should drive the buses safely and should take precautions to avoid accidents so that the passengers do not face any inconvenience.
The emergency orders issued by the Chairman include speed control should be observed when it is raining and indicators should be used at turns; do not change the direction of the bus suddenly; maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front; wiper should be used while driving in the rain and headlights in low beams and fog lights must be used.
Govrdhan also said that buses should move slowly by checking the flow of water, especially where ponds are filled with puddles. Do not attempt to bypass rivers and culverts if there is high water flow. Windscreen glasses should be cleaned from the outside with a wiper whereas the inside should be cleaned with a cloth and before leaving for duty, the functioning of the wiper and headlights should be checked.
Further, he said, the bus should be driven slowly when the road is under repair. Adequate rest should be taken before coming to duty; avoid overtaking other vehicles during heavy rain and avoid driving with one hand; do not brake suddenly. When it is raining, make sure to turn on the lights and drive the vehicle under control, he added.
