TTD’s cancer hosp in Tirupati fully equipped for top-class treatment: EO

TTD Executive Officer (EO) AV Dharma Reddy announced on Tuesday that the Balaji Institute of Oncology, TTD’s cancer hospital, is fully equipped to provide comprehensive cancer treatment adhering to international standards of medical equipment and expertise.

Participating as the chief guest in a 10-day cancer awareness and training programme for Community Health Officers (CHO) and Mid-Level Health Providers (MLHP) of Tirupati district. The programme, organised by Sri Padmavati Mahila Medical College, is scheduled to take place from July 13 to 22.

During his address, the TTD EO emphasised the importance of early screening and diagnosis in the treatment of cancer, citing the alarming statistic that seven lakh individuals die annually due to this disease. He also highlighted the significance of lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise in preventing cancer, attributing the rise in cases to the prevalent culture of fast food and junk food consumption. He mentioned the potential solutions offered by the ancient knowledge embedded in Patanjali Maharshi Yoga Shastra.

Furthermore, the TTD EO revealed that the SV Vedic University plans to organize a training program on Yoga and its applications in managing cancer and related conditions.

The EO emphasized that consumption of organic cow-based farm products can contribute to cancer prevention and urged CHOs and MLHPs to raise awareness about this in villages.

In a joint effort with doctors and other infrastructure, TTD will support the state government’s campaign to establish three cancer identification centers in each district, aiming to make every district cancer-free.

District Collector Venkataramana Reddy estimated that 10% of the district’s population is susceptible to cancer. Therefore, efforts are being made to provide cancer screening and treatment at the doorstep of every individual. Collaborating with Tata Cancer Institute, SVIMS, and the district administration, training modules for screening and treatment have been prepared. TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy and TTD EO AV Dharma Reddy expressed their unwavering support for these initiatives.

The Collector appealed to Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and volunteers to ensure that every individual undergoes screening in the Pink buses provided by TTD, which are staffed with specialist doctors. A software has also been developed to identify patients.

The Collector urged everyone to work towards making Tirupati District a cancer-free region.

TTD Joint Executive Officer (Education and Health) and Director of SVIMS, Sada Bhargavi, revealed that TTD plans to establish permanent centers in Gudur, Srikalahasti, and Chandragiri. She expressed gratitude for the wholehearted support of AP Chief Secretary Dr. KS Jawahar Reddy, TTD Chairman, and TTD EO.

She added that 1500 women employees of TTD have already undergone cancer screening and urged CHOs and volunteers to encourage all women in the villages to undergo early screening for prompt treatment.

The event was attended by Dr. Charan. B Singh, Principal of SPMMC, Dr. Nagaraj, Head of the Community Medicine wing, Dr. Jayachandra Reddy, OSD of Balaji Institute of Oncology, Aparna, SVIMS Registrar, Dr. Srihari, District Health Officer, Dr. Srinivasa Rao, District Program Coordinator, and Dr. Chandrasekharan, Principal of SV Medical College.
The TTD EO, District Collector, and JEO also unveiled the training programme module booklets.
