Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has said that Katamaiah safety kits would be given to more toddy tappers.
He was taking part in the foundation stone laying ceremony for the storm water drain and Cement Concrete Road works taken up on the Pumping Well Road of 30th division in Khammam Municipal corporation with Rs 2 crore FIDC funds.
Later, he distributed the Katamaiah Safety Kits to 100 toddy tappers with the support of the Telangana Toddy Tappers’ Cooperative Finance Corporation.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the safety kits would protect the toddy tappers from accidents. The state government has been giving kits free of cost to the toddy tappers and asked the toddy tappers to make good use of the facility. All toddy tappers who climb the tree and living under the jurisdiction of the toddy tappers’ cooperative society would be given the safety kits, the minister said. He asked the officials whether the toddy tappers are using the safety kits or not. The excise officials should explain the toddy tappers the benefits of using the kits. The minister enquired about the progress of various Excise Department’s activities in the city. He asked the officials to check the wine shop permit rooms and bars on a regular basis. The liquor shops should not be located close to temples, educational institutions and hospitals. The people should not face any inconvenience due to the liquor shops.
He inspected the procurement of greegram at the Khammam market yard at the MSP of Rs 8682 a quintal and enquired from the officials about the progress.
Two procurement centers have been set up one each in Khammam market yard and the other at Wyra Market Yard. So far, 4292 quintals of green gram was procured from 391 farmers, District Marketing Officer Aleem told the Minister.
 City Mayor Punukollu Neeraja, Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Agasthya, Excise Superintendent Nagender Reddy, R and B SE Hemalata, corporators, excise and marketing department officials and others took part in the event.
