The election for the Tuni municipal vice-chairman was postponed on Monday amid dramatic developments.
The Joint Collector, who was the returning officer, announced that the election for the vice-chairman post had been deferred due to a lack of quorum. The election will now be held on Tuesday, the JC confirmed.
Earlier, 10 TDP councillors attended the session to elect the vice-chairman, but the YSRCP councillors abstained.
Meanwhile, in protest against the TDP’s attempts to secure the vice-chairman post, YSRCP leaders called for a ‘Chalo Tuni’ protest to be held on Tuesday. YSRCP leader Dadishetti Raja accused TDP leaders of threatening their councillors and claimed that TDP activists attempted to attack him when he visited the municipal office.
Dadishetti Raja further alleged that Tuni Rural CI Chenna Keshava Rao had threatened YSRCP councillors who attended the election session.
Former minister Kurasala Kannababu condemned the TDP’s efforts to win the vice-chairman election through undemocratic means.
