Two gates of twin reservoirs lifted due to heavy rains

The continuous rains let heavy flows into the twin reservoirs of Himayath Sagar and Osman Sagar in Telangana.

With this, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has lifted two gates each up to one feet height of the reservoirs to let water into the river Musi River on Wednesday.

The gates were lifted for the first time on July 10, 2022 and the water was released downstream. Later, due to rains, all the gates were closed on October 26. Two gates were raised for the first time on July 21 this year.

At present 1,200 cusecs of flood water is continuing to the reservoir. Two gates are raised by one foot and 1350 cusecs of water is released downstream.

For Osman Sagar, the gates were raised for the first time on July 10 when the water level in the reservoir was 1785.80 feet last year. The last time all the gates were closed was on October 26.

Two gates were raised for the first time this year. Currently, 800 cusecs of flood water is coming to the reservoir and 216 cusecs of water is being released into the Musi.

MD of HMWSSB Dana kishore directed the Water Board officials as well as Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts, GHMC and police officials to be alert as the gates of the twin reservoirs were being released as around 1,566 cusecs of flood water was being released into the Musi River.
