CPM leader Ch Baburao has expressed strong disapproval of the Union Budget, labelling it a betrayal of the common people and a disappointment for Andhra Pradesh. During his visit to Ajit Singh Nagar and other areas in Vijayawada, he engaged with local CPM leaders and the public, addressing various pressing issues.
Baburao listened to the concerns of local residents, particularly highlighting issues related to electricity tariffs and adjustment charges. He urged graduates to vote carefully in the upcoming Legislative Council elections and stressed the importance of ethical voting. Baburao outlined the budget’s failures, stating it did not alleviate the financial burdens on common citizens, and was primarily designed to benefit corporate interests. He noted that it provided no tax relief for the 140 crore Indians and accused the government of ignoring Andhra Pradesh’s specific needs, particularly regarding pending projects in Amaravati.
Baburao stressed the importance of rejecting inducements and misinformation in the electoral process. He advocated for the election of intellectual and meritorious leaders to the Legislative Council, opposing the use of financial influence in politics. Baburao called upon voters, regardless of party affiliations, to reject candidates who rely on money power, insisting that the Council should represent teachers, graduates, unemployed youth, and workers. He criticised the practice of using the Legislative Council as a means for unemployed politicians to regain influence.
He pointed out that the budget failed to provide tax relief to common citizens and could have taxed top corporate firms instead. He criticised the ongoing high GST, fuel taxes, and increasing debt, which continue to burden ordinary citizens. Baburao lamented the lack of funds for Andhra Pradesh and unfulfilled promises made during the State’s bifurcation. He noted that the budget seemed to prioritise politically significant states like Bihar, sidelining the needs of Andhra Pradesh.
Baburao called for a collective rejection of the economic policies of the BJP-led Central government. He emphasised the need to pressure the Centre for fair allocation of funds to Andhra Pradesh. Baburao encouraged citizens to be aware of the government’s tactics and to vote wisely to protect their interests.
