In a bold cinematic endeavour, People Media Factory and director Vijay Yelakanti, known for their upcoming project Karthikeya 2, are set to illuminate a significant yet often overlooked chapter of Indian history with Maa Kaali. This compelling narrative delves into the harrowing events of the 1946 Calcutta Killings, which marked a pivotal moment leading to India’s partition. The film stars Raima Sen and Abhishek Singh, a former IAS officer turned actor, in prominent roles. Unveiling the poster for Maa Kaali, the makers have announced the teaser launch scheduled for July 4. This true pan-India film aims to shed light on the tragic events of Direct Action Day and the Naokhali massacres, events that left an indelible mark on Bengal’s history. Director Vijay Yelakanti expressed, “Maa Kaali is a tribute to the lives lost during the ruthless massacre driven by power and ambition. The events of August 16, 1946, known as ‘The Week of Long Knives’, continue to resonate as an untold story of human suffering. Through this film, we strive to give voice to the victims and bring their stories to the forefront.” The film, shot in Hindi and set for release in Bengali and Telugu as well, promises to explore the deep-rooted scars left by communal violence in Bengal. Producer TG Vishwa Prasad and co-producer Vivek Kuchibhotla are confident that Maa Kaali will spark important socio-political conversations across the nation. Raima Sen, making a powerful comeback to the big screen, plays a pivotal role in Maa Kaali, embodying the spirit of resilience and remembrance amidst historical turmoil. As the teaser launch approaches, anticipation mounts for Maa Kaali, a film poised to uncover a chapter of history that demands attention and reflection.
