Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has strongly urged the Centre to intervene in the Krishna water dispute to prevent injustice to Telangana.
Speaking at the All India Conference of Irrigation Ministers, organised by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti in Udaipur on February 18 and 19, Uttam made a detailed presentation on water storage infrastructure and supply augmentation highlighting the key issues faced by Telangana.
He demanded that the Centre should allocate Rs 4,000 crore for the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, including the establishment of trunk and interceptor sewer networks along the river. He also sought Rs 6,000 crore to connect the Godavari River with the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs to ensure a sustainable drinking water supply for Hyderabad and for the Musi River’s ecological restoration.
Uttam called for a speedy judgment on the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II (KWDT-II) to ensure justice for Telangana. He also pressed for swift completion of the water allocation process for major projects like the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Samakka-Sarakka and the Sitarama Sagar Project.
Telangana demanded Central support for low-cost, long-tenure funding for irrigation projects, meeting the de-siltation and de-sedimentation costs of all major and minor irrigation projects and completion of the NDSA enquiry into the Medigadda Project.
