Journalists should focus on pressing problems and help solve them, said Medak Lok Sabha member M Raghunandan Rao.
On Friday, a workshop titled ‘Vartalap” was held for journalists at the Collectorate. It was organised by the Press Information Bureau. The programme was inaugurated by Raghunandan Rao, along with District Collector Rahul Raj and Deputy Director M Krishna Kant, after lighting a lamp. In the “Vartalap” programme, senior journalists Sudhakar Reddy and Krishna Kant explained various aspects through a PowerPoint presentation. MP Raghunandan Rao and District Collector Rahul Raj were the chief guests at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Raghunandan Rao emphasised that journalists should pay attention to public issues. He remarked that value-based journalism would benefit society. He highlighted the crucial role of journalists in conveying the welfare schemes of both the Central and State governments to the public. Every piece of news written by journalists should aid the development of marginalised communities. He pointed to the necessity of constructing toilets in rural areas and mentioned the hardships faced by female students visiting mandal centres due to the lack of sanitation facilities, urging journalists to report on such issues for the betterment of society.
District Collector Rahul Raj noted that journalism is a sacred profession, and stressed the need to report truth that raises awareness among people regarding social discrimination, superstitions, and the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Atrocities Act, thus awakening the public.
The programme was attended by Deputy Director M Krishna Kant, Shiva Charan Reddy, Sudhakar Reddy, DPRO Ramachandra Raju, Baburao, and other staff members.
