Mega Prince Varun Tej is set to make his pan-India debut with Matka, which is also his most ambitious film to date. Directed by Karuna Kumar and produced by Dr. Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Thalluri under the banners of Vyra Entertainments and SRT Entertainments, the film is being crafted on a grand scale. Production is currently underway in Hyderabad.
On Sunday, the team unveiled the first look poster for the film, showcasing Varun Tej in two distinct avatars—one as a young man and the other as a middle-aged individual. The film will span the protagonist’s journey over 24 years, featuring him in four different looks. The poster highlights two contrasting facets of his character: from an underdog to a powerful overlord, capturing his rise to dominance.
In one image, Varun Tej exudes youthful intensity and style, smoking a cigar with a vintage look. On the other hand, he appears aged and affluent, also smoking a cigar but with spectacles and grey hair, and a gun on his desk. The background features a king card from a deck of playing cards. The impressive first look creates a strong visual impact, hinting at Varun Tej’s return to roles his fans are eager to see. The film also stars Meenakshi Chaudhry and Nora Fatehi, set against a period backdrop. The cinematography is handled by A Kishor Kumar, with GV Prakash Kumar composing the music and Karthika Srinivas R editing the film. Matka will be released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
