The sleuths of the Vigilance and Enforcement Department on Friday inspected 57 schools in different districts across Andhra Pradesh to ascertain information about the implementation of ‘Jagananna Vidya Kanuka’ in shools and found that there were irregularities in 54 schools on the implementation of the Mid Day Meals scheme (Jagananna Gorumudda).
The V&E officials found that under the scheme Jagananna Vidya Kanuka, the cloth was insufficient for the uniforms for the children besides the amount for stitching is not sufficient.
The quality of school bags was not good and the torn bags were not replaced with new ones in almost all schools that were inspected. Even that bag capacity is insufficient to carry all books in most of the schools.
Hindi textbooks were not supplied to students who joined late in ZPH School, Lolugu (V), Ponduru (M), Srikakulam District, 169 textbooks pertaining to different subjects of both English and Telugu medium for 9th class students are not yet supplied.
Shoes that were not distributed to most of the students had a size issue and were returned for replacement in most of the schools and the quality of the shoes was very poor.
The V&E officials found that under Jagananna Gorumudda (Mid Day Meals) Utensils are not sufficient for cooking in ZPHS, Nandyal district. Eggs are not sufficient for the students taking meals due to the delay in the supply of eggs in MPT, School, Bapatla, Eluru, and Anantapur Rural Mandal. In most of the schools, inspections by higher officials (MEO/DEO) have not been carried out during the last few years. In most of the schools, the RO plant is not available. There is a shortage of eggs and chikkis in ZPH School, Eluru dist.
Excess stock of eggs and chikki are found in Z.P High School, Guntur, Chittoor, and Visakhapatnam districts. No MDM logo is found on the rice bags in Government High School, Prakasam, Chittoor, and Annamayya districts. In most of the schools, kitchen sheds are not in hygienic condition.
