The Vishwa Hindu Parishad filed a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj on Monday against the BRS, the INC and the AIMIM alleging that they were indulging in appeasement politics and thereby violating Constitutional principles.
The VHP requested the cancellation of the political party registration of the BRS, the INC and the AIMIM and the disqualification of the candidates of these political parties in the Telangana Assembly elections–2023.
In its letter, the VHP alleged that the BRS, the INC and the AIMIM are engaging in appeasement politics on religious grounds, especially regarding religion-based schemes, a practice that not only violates the principles of a fair democracy but also undermines the Constitution.
“As an organisation committed to fostering harmony and preserving the religious fabric of our nation, we find the promises of Muslim reservations made by the BRS, the INC and the AIMIM deeply troubling. This is against the ethos of a secular, democratic society. It has come to our attention that on November 8, 2005, a 5-judge Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court held that reservations for Muslims were unconstitutional.
This historical legal precedent serves as a critical reminder of the judiciary’s stance on this matter. This is a matter currently under consideration by the Supreme Court. Giving promises and pursuing policies that are against HC verdicts is a clear disregard for legal processes. We urge your office to investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to ensure the sanctity of our democratic processes. Specifically, we request that you consider the cancellation of the political party registration of the BRS, the INC and the AlMlM for their violation of Constitutional principles. Additionally, we believe it is imperative to disqualify the candidates associated with the BRS, the INC and the AIMIM in the Telangana Assembly elections–2023 in order to maintain the integrity of our electoral system.”
