Vignan University V-C awarded Honorary Colonel rank in NCC

Professor P Nagabhushan, Vice Chancellor of Vignan’s University, was awarded the honorary Colonel rank in the NCC (National Cadet Corps) by the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday.
The certificate and gazette notification pertaining to this recognition were presented to the university by Air Commodore V. Madhusudan Reddy, Deputy Director General of the AP-Telangana NCC Directorate, during his visit to Vignan’s University.
During the event, Air Commodore Reddy highlighted that Professor Nagabhushan was honoured with the honorary Colonel rank in recognition of his efforts to integrate NCC into the university’s academic framework, improve infrastructure, and foster discipline, camaraderie, commitment, and overall development among students. He commended the Vice Chancellor for his dedicated involvement in conducting NCC activities at the university.
One of Professor Nagabhushan’s significant achievements was the introduction of an NCC minor programme that provides 20 credits to both NCC and non-NCC cadets. He also integrated Integrated Disaster Management and SSB (Services Selection Board) training into the NCC minor course, recognising the importance of NCC training. Under his leadership, the university has created a supportive environment for cadets to develop discipline and camaraderie through rigorous training and camp management.
Air Commodore Reddy further acknowledged Professor Nagabhushan’s invaluable role in organising two camps in the previous academic year and motivating students to actively participate in national-level competitions such as the Republic Day Camp, Thalsainik Camp, and Army Attachment Camp. These camps not only enhanced students’ skills but also brought recognition to Vignan’s University. Additionally, Professor Nagabhushan worked towards expanding the university’s NCC units, allowing more students to join the NCC. He also introduced an add-on diploma course in NCC.
In response, Professor P. Nagabhushan expressed his happiness in receiving the honorary Colonel rank in the NCC, stating that it increased his responsibility in managing NCC activities. He emphasised that he would continue to work on designing new programmes for the benefit of NCC students and improving infrastructure at the university.
Professor Nagabhushan was congratulated by Colonel Sanjay Gupta, Guntur Group Commander Colonel S.M. Chandrashekhar, other group commanders, battalion commanding officers, Dr. Lavu Rathaiah, Chairman of Vignan’s Educational Institutions, Dr. M.S. Raghunathan, Registrar, deans, heads of departments, and faculty members.
