Vijayanand assumes office as AP Chief Secy

K. Vijayanand has officially assumed office as the new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh at the State Secretariat on Tuesday evening, with Vedic priests offering their blessings. He succeeds Neerabh Kumar Prasad, who retired from the position of Chief Secretary on the same day.
Vijayanand’s appointment was formally announced through a Government Order (GO RT No. 2209) issued on December 29, 2024, by the General Administration Department.
K Vijayanand began his career in the united Andhra Pradesh in 1993 as an Assistant Collector in Adilabad district. He later served as the Sub-Collector of Rampachodavaram until 1996 and also held the position of Project Director in the Rural Development Department. From 1998 to 2007, he worked as Joint Collector in the districts of Rangareddy, Srikakulam, and Nalgonda.

From 2007 to 2008, Vijayanand served as the State Project Director for Planning and Programme Implementation. He was appointed Joint Managing Director of AP Transco from 2008 to 2009. Between 2016 and 2019, he held dual roles as Managing Director of AP Genco and CMD of AP Transco. In 2019, Vijayanand was appointed Chief Electoral Officer & Ex Officio Principal Secretary, overseeing critical election processes in the State.
Since 2023, he has served as the Special Chief Secretary in the Energy Department, in addition to holding several other key responsibilities, including Chairman of AP PCC, APPDCL, NREDCAP, and APSFC. Furthermore, he chaired the Southern Regional Power Committee (SRPC) during 2023-24.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Vijayanand played a pivotal role in formulating and notifying the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy-2024. This ambitious policy aims to position the State as a global hub for clean energy, with a target of over 160 gigawatts of renewable energy generation. The initiative is expected to attract investments worth ?10,00,000 crore and create approximately 7,50,000 direct and indirect jobs. The policy focuses on solar, wind, hybrid resources, and green hydrogen, contributing to the state’s energy self-sufficiency and supporting India’s renewable energy goals.
Vijayanand’s expertise in the power sector spans nearly 14 years, marked by innovative leadership and strategic planning. Under his guidance, the state’s energy infrastructure and capabilities have seen significant improvements.
On the occasion of Vijayanand assuming office as Chief Secretary, outgoing Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad extended his congratulations and presented a bouquet to the new Chief Secretary. In return, Vijayanand congratulated Neerabh Prasad Kumar and offered him a bouquet.
Special Chief Secretaries G Sai Prasad, M T  Krishna Babu, TTD EO Shyamala Rao, GAD Secretary S Suresh Kumar, Chief Secretaries Kantilal Dande, Jayalakshmi, Kumar Vishwajeet, as well as several other senior officials, secretaries, and representatives of various employee associations, extended their best wishes to Vijayanand in his new role.
