In a significant achievement for Andhra Pradesh, the State received a record Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of 284.22 million US dollars during the financial year 2022-23, according to Union Minister for Commerce Som Prakash, as stated by Rajya Sabha member and YSRCP national general secretary V Vijayasai Reddy.

This revelation, made during the Parliament sessions, puts an end to the false propaganda spread by the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) regarding foreign investments. Reddy challenged the TDP-supported media to inform the people of Andhra Pradesh about the actual investments that have come into the state.

In addition to the remarkable FDI achievement, Andhra Pradesh has made significant strides in poverty reduction and export improvement. NITI Aayog reported that 30.02 lakh people have emerged from multifaceted poverty in the state. Over the past five years (2015-16 to 2019-2021), the number of people living below the poverty line in Andhra Pradesh decreased from 11.77 percent to 6.06 percent, indicating that 5.71 percent of the state’s population has been lifted out of poverty.

In terms of poverty reduction, Andhra Pradesh stands at the 17th position nationwide, as determined by family surveys conducted on the basis of 12 factors, including education and healthcare.

The results of the poverty reduction programmes, titled “National Multidimensional Poverty Index-Progress Review-2023,” were released on July 22 by NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Suman Bheri, CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, and members VK Paul and Arvind Virmani. The survey indicates that Andhra Pradesh ranks 13th in terms of the number of poor people.

Additionally, Andhra Pradesh has improved its position in terms of exports in 2022 compared to the previous year. According to the Export Preparedness Index-2022 (Export Readiness Index), the state is ranked 8th in the country, with an overall export score of 59.27 percent.

The coastal State also performed well in the export category among other coastal states this year, securing the fifth position. NITI Aayog based these estimates on various factors, including government policies to promote exports, business-friendly conditions, export-friendly environment, and export practices.

MP Vijayasai Reddy expressed his appreciation for Andhra Pradesh’s achievements and highlighted the State’s progress in attracting foreign investment, reducing poverty, and improving export prospects. These positive indicators reflect the State’s efforts in creating a conducive environment for economic growth and development.
