Vijayawada Rly Division celebrates World Environment Day

Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway, celebrated World Environment Day across the Division on Wednesday. At Vijayawada Railway Station, Narendra A Patil, DRM, Vijayawada Division, administered the World Environment Day pledge to the branch officers and staff. PE Edwin, ADRM, (Infrastructure) and Srinivasa Rao Konda, ADRM (Operations), officers, staff, Bharat Scouts & Guides, and school students gathered at Clock Tower, East Main Entrance at Vijayawada Station on the occasion.
Later, Narendra Patil released a World Environment Day brochure featuring the achievements of Vijayawada Division in the field of energy conservation. The DRM, along with the branch officers and staff, planted saplings in the circulating area of Vijayawada Railway Station. A huge awareness rally was also conducted from Clock Tower to Bapu Waiting Hall on Platform No1 of the Vijayawada Railway Station.
At Bapu Waiting Hall, Nukkad Natak was performed by Bharat Scouts & Guides on the theme ‘Beat the Plastic Pollution’, to create awareness among the passengers and the general public, which was well received with an overwhelming response from the passengers. Live ‘Drum Beat’ performance was demonstrated by Bharat Scouts & Guides to mark the occasion and avoid the use of plastic.
The DRM distributed prizes to the Bharat Scouts & Guides for designing beautiful placards on environmental protection and sustainable living.
Speaking on the occasion, Narendra Patil congratulated the Environment and Housekeeping Management (EnHM) Department on undertaking various environmental conservation measures. “On World Environment Day, we must reignite and renew our commitment to the green ecosystem in letter and in spirit,” he said.
He also underscored the importance of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, total ban on plastic and segregation of wet and dry waste at source.
The DRM appealed to the public to avoid single use plastic and voluntarily contribute for achieving all environmental goals and clean and green India. He also appreciated the EnHM Department for their hard work and contribution in bagging the third place for SCR Zone in Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 in the Indian Railways.
