The National Senior Baseball Championship will be conducted in Vijayawada next year. Around 35 teams, both men and women, from all States will participate in the tournament, said Andhra Pradesh Baseball Association chairman Sagi Krishna Vaibhav.
The general body meeting of the association was held in Hyderabad on Sunday. The meeting, chaired by association president Gudivada Rama Rao, unanimously elected Krishna Vaibhav as chairman.
The association and Baseball Federation of India representatives congratulated Krishna Vaibhav. Speaking on the occasion, Vaibhav said that baseball was popular among the youth and he would strive for the development of the game in the State. Earlier, AP had conducted two national tournaments in the combined Krishna district, one at Gudivada and another at Machilipatnam.
Due to various reasons, the Baseball Federation of India was suspended by the court. It has been reconstituted now, he added.
He further said that following the directives of the reconstituted Baseball Federation, the Andhra Pradesh Baseball Association was expanding its district units. As part of this, the association would organise senior nationals in Vijayawada next year. With the support of the federation and the AP State government, the association will take steps to develop the game in all districts, he said.
